So, Jordan Peterson, in one of his many helpful sayings or just one of the many helpful things that he has said (“sayings” makes it sound like he just repeats the same things over and over, which I guess might happen with a lot of speakers, him included, but nevertheless), suggested to make your schedule not focusing on the things you have to do, but rather to make your schedule of the day/week/whatever you’d like to have.
Now, this isn’t just “get drunk and watch TV,” but more in the holistic (and I think in the true sense of Utilitarianism) way of saying, “What are the things you will like to have done, and/or like to do, today, that will leave you better off than you were?” In the sense of saying, you might like to eat something unhealthy or do something destructive, in the moment, but ultimately, what you will have liked most will have taken on a broader perspective, like Jordan’s note with Sam Harris about the truth of the room you’re in not being on fire when the rest of the house is, or something. It’s not true enough.
Or, rather, there’s just not enough perspective.
